Preventing stress in teaching.

A manual for preventing teaching stress in second level schools.

Objectives of the Project

Project Partners

The three main partners were

In addition, the two second level teachers unions in Ireland, the ASTI and the TUI acted as consultants to the project.

The project was part funded by the SAFE programme of DG-V of the European Commission and in Ireland by the Irish Life insurance company and the Eagle Star insurance company.

Project Outputs

The project developed and tested a manual for the prevention of teaching stress over the course of an 21 month period in 12 second level schools in Ireland, the Netherlands and Spain. In addition, it developed a training course for users of the manual.

A principal aim of the project was to ensure that the manual could be used in a standalone manner, i.e. without external help. In addition, a further requirement was that the stress prevention process must not be too time consuming and should be capable of being integrated into the everyday processes of school management.

The manual will be available for general use from May 2000.

Duration of the Project

The project began in January 1998 and was completed in September 1999.
